Longer days, warmer temperatures, and fun with friends and family make happier times for both humans and horses!
SandyBoy and his friends love the first rich green grass in their pasture. Although they enjoy their hay in the other seasons, there is nothing so enjoyable as spending lovely days munching away!!
This is also a time for wonderful trail rides through the pastures to feel the breezes off the ocean as we wander. June is a great time as it is still cool enough to keep the bothersome flies away. As the temperature warms up towards July, they show up and can bite mercilessly requiring fly masks and fly sheets to protect the horses. Fly spray becomes a necessity when riding so both horse and rider can enjoy the experience!
Summer Fun
Summer camps begin to open for the season. Children of all ages enjoy their activities at camp which may include horseback riding. Often, this is the first introduction that a child has to horses and that can stimulate a lifelong attraction to the enjoyment of a relationship with a horse.
Summer is also a time of relaxation and some quiet times for reading. Stories about horses are often chosen adventures. SandyBoy hopes that children will enjoy reading his stories this summer and share them with their friends. Summer is often a time for families to move to a new home which means making new friends and a new school in the fall. The book ‘SandyBoy and His New Home’ has helpful suggestions from SandyBoy to help children with the transition. He is also excited that later this summer his third story will be available for his readers!
